Why did we took 101 years to respect ourselves ?

            We all knew the drama played by media targeting the inclusion of Ancient Science papers in 102nd Indian Science Congress. Little did the people knew that all the criticism was in media and not in the conference.

I saw the experts and Scientists present there did asked questions but that was not criticism, rather CURIOSITY!


           I would like to quote the words of a renowned personality present at the Science Congress. He said ''Media and other intellectuals opposing the event doesn't even know how to criticize! Ideas cannot be criticized by words. We have to put them in laboratory. And we are going to do that. We will test these stuffs in laboratory and later derive the conclusions. Innovations and Imaginations should never be stopped.''

           For years we ignored ourselves and tried best to own what others left. When a small country like Israel brought a dead language Hebrew to life just because it was hers, we didn't event bothered to have a glance.

        In respect to Indian Science Congress (ISC 102) right upto the 102nd conference held at Mumbai , papers used to be purely US and Europe centric. We blindly followed or rather ignored ourselves with a fear of shame. We disowned our past and unattached ourselves from our traditions. But very little did we knew that what we had left unknowingly was a treasure mine.

           And now after a gap of 100 years, when we talked little of our past, our own people are mocking us.
I don't bother what others say, but our Indian brothers sitting at NASA are busy organizing petitions to stop the event as they considered it non-sense and science free.

           Rather, there is need to feel proud of the depth at which Rishis/Scientists have talked on reasoning, philosophy, economics, science, polity, medical, war strategy, life sciences, mathematics, astronomy, architecture and list goes on.

Let us try to understand the situation logically

Many of us may be aware of famous Economist Angus Maddison and his grand work.
Going back to  two millinnea. Below is the GDP statistics as per Angus Maddison in 1 AD

            From the statistics, the difference is quite clear.  In 1 AD India's GDP was 105 times or 1000% more than UK, USA was no where in picture.

            Now lets take the present scenario. Can you imagine a developed and powerful nation without science? Can you image United States without science? Answer is NO!!

           Science and applied science can make a country come forward. If this is true now,  it has to be true then. Which means that a fair amount of science existed in India.

 Where was this science in middle ages?

    There are multiple reason but the most prominent is the foreign invasions. Huge libraries throughout the country burned for months. However, it is evident that much of the technology was alive right upto British invasions. And Britishers themselves have made an account of it. Concluding the article, It is the time to ask ourselves
Why did we took 101 years to respect ourselves ?
We should not crave for it, then too, what is the reason that we could not produce noble laureates for these many years?
What is the reason that there is almost negligible amount of fundamental research going on in thecountry?

We should remember that one who copies ALWAYS remains ONE step behind!!
